Runners Urged to Raise Funds for Charity In Grand Pier Half Marathon
RUNNERS across the South West are being encouraged to sign up for The Grand Pier Half Marathon to raise vital funds for charity.
The seaside attraction, in Weston-super-Mare, has teamed up with Freak Events Ltd to stage The Grand Pier Half Marathon on November 1.
Runners will start at the entrance of the Grand Pier and follow a 13.1 mile tarmac/road route towards Marine Lake.
The route continues onto Knightstone Road, Birnbeck Road and Kewstoke Road (with all roads closed to road traffic).
Each runner can support one of eight nominated charities; Action For Children, Asthma UK, Bone Cancer, British Heart Foundation, Children’s Hospice, RNLI, SSAFA and Weston Hospicecare.
Paul Charalambous, Grand Pier General Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to stage this event in conjunction with Freak Events and hope all the runners raise plenty of funds for their chosen charity.”
The Grand Pier is sponsoring the event and is also giving every runner a Grand Pier Half Marathon T-shirt, a goody bag, Grand Pier £5 ride voucher, and a Grand Pier food discount voucher (to be used on the day).
The race entry fee is £29.50 (non-affiliated runners) and £27.50 (affiliated runners) via www.freakevents.co.uk.
Prizes on offer include £250 for 1st male and female runner, £125 for 2nd place winners and £75 for runners coming third.
